Company description::
MARCH 3, 2004, St. Louis, Missouri … Jimmi Yin’s Asian Grill & Wok Bar, a 100-seat ‘”fast-casual” restaurant offering more than 20 freshly-cooked entrees ranging from Singapore Chili Scallops to Asian Citrus Tuna, plus luscious soups and salads, has opened at 9739 Manchester Road in suburban Rock Hill to instant success.

“Jimmi Yin’s is a popular destination for people who value Pan-Asian menu variety, colorful food presentation and fast service in a smoke-free environment,” says chef Darren Garmer, who adds, “The number of people we serve at lunch and dinner is growing every day – and our take-out business is thriving.”

A graduate of The California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, 32-year-old chef Garmer, with founder and owner Terry Bozzay, recently opened Jimmi Yin’s to fulfill customers who enjoy healthy, distinctive food variety at low cost.

All entrees, including eight noodle and rice bowls, plus fresh-cooked favorites such as Ginger Shrimp, Tuna Kebab and a Thai Vegetable Toss, are priced between $5.95 and $9.95. Five salad meals priced at $6.75 or less, such as a Spicy Szechwan Chicken Noodle Salad, and four different soups, including a lush, Pho Bowl of rice noodles, chicken, green onions and bean sprouts infused with ginger and chicken broth, are served.

“I opened Jimmi Yin’s because all my life I have enjoyed eating at restaurants several times a week,” Bozzay admits. “I like menus with many choices and I like reasonable prices. At Jimmi Yin’s, we offer all that and more.

“As part of our value concept, we are a ‘no tipping’ restaurant. No tipping is required or expected at Jimmi Yin’s.”

In addition to its colorful menu of fresh-cooked Pan-Asian fare, Jimmi Yin’s offer a Kids Menu of entrees for $2.99 each, plus a range of domestic, Japanese and Chinese beers. Vintage Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlo wines are served by the glass.

How does everything work so efficiently? The colorful menu at Jimmi Yin’s is displayed on screens that patrons see upon entry. After placing orders with a greeter, guests may pick up beverages and take seats at tables or booths. Within minutes, a server brings their meal.

Chef Garmer says Jimmi’s Sweet & Spicy Chicken and Curried Shrimp entrees are perhaps most popular, “but because Jimmi Yin’s offers so much variety, our top sellers change every day.”

Heart-healthy “low-carb” dishes at Jimmi Yin’s include Asian Spinach Salad, Korean BBQ Chicken Breast and Green Curry Chicken, plus other choices. Cool Lettuce Wraps, made with flash-wokked chicken, straw mushrooms, water chestnuts and green onions, is a popular appetizer. Desserts include Banana Wontons made with powdered cinnamon sugar and fresh wontons wrapped around banana slices, then flash-fried for $3.50; Sundried Cherry Rice Pudding for $1.95;and a selection of cookies for under a dollar each.

“We believe we are filling a void in the market for distinctive, high-quality, low-cost food that people can enjoy if they are in a hurry or if they want to take a ‘long lunch’ or leisurely dinner,” says Bozzay. “So far, our guests seem to agree.”

Jimmi Yin’s Asian Grill & Wok Bar is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays noon to 10 p.m.; and Sundays from 11:30 to 8 p.m. Take-out orders are welcome. Major credit cards are accepted. Craig Reinert, who studied at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, is manager. The restaurant currently employs a total of 15 people.
